Perched high above the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in Clinton County, Hyner View State Park packs an outsized punch for its compact 6 acres. Established in 1965, this small but mighty park exists for one reason: the view. And what a view it is — a sweeping, 180-degree panorama of the Susquehanna Valley and the endless ridges of the Pennsylvania Wilds that ranks among the most dramatic overlooks in the eastern United States.

The park sits at an elevation of roughly 1,900 feet, and the main overlook drops sharply to the river below, creating a vertigo-inducing vantage point that draws hang gliders and paragliders from across the region. Even if you keep your feet planted, watching colorful gliders launch from the platform and soar over the valley is a spectacle worth the drive alone.

Beyond the overlook, Hyner View connects to a network of rugged trails in the surrounding Sproul State Forest, including access points for the Donut Hole Trail. Picnic facilities are available at the summit, making it an ideal lunch stop on a driving tour of the Pennsylvania Wilds.

Camping is not available within the park itself, but nearby Hyner Run State Park in the valley below offers rustic campsites along Hyner Run.

Visit in mid-October for peak fall foliage, when the valley transforms into a patchwork of gold, orange, and crimson stretching to the horizon. Spring and summer bring lush green canopy and prime hang gliding conditions. Winter visits reward with stark, crystalline views on clear days.
