Tucked into the rugged mountains of Clinton County, Hyner Run State Park sits along the banks of Hyner Run where it meets the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. At just 180 acres, this compact park punches above its weight thanks to its dramatic setting in the narrow valley below some of Pennsylvania’s most spectacular ridgelines.

The park is best known for its proximity to Hyner View State Park, perched on the mountain above, which offers one of the most photographed overlooks in the state. Hang gliders regularly launch from that vantage point, and watching them soar over the valley is a memorable experience even from down below.

Hyner Run itself is a quality trout stream, drawing anglers for both stocked and native brook trout fishing. The surrounding Sproul State Forest provides access to miles of rugged hiking trails, including connectors to the Donut Hole Trail system — serious backcountry terrain that rewards experienced hikers with solitude and mountain laurel blooms in June.

Swimming is available in the stream during summer months, and the park’s picnic areas make a solid base for a day exploring the region. Hunting is permitted in adjacent state forest lands during season.

Established in 1958, the park retains a quiet, unhurried character that feels increasingly rare. Fall brings peak foliage that lights up the surrounding ridges in October, making it arguably the best time to visit. Summer weekends see moderate use but rarely feel crowded.
