Ferry Landing State Park
Old Lyme, Connecticut (New London County)
About This Park
This recreation area is part of Tenkiller Ferry Lake
Ferry Landing State Park sits along the banks of the Connecticut River in Old Lyme, occupying a compact but scenic acre where the river meets Long Island Sound. This small waterfront park marks the historic site where ferries once crossed between Old Lyme and Old Saybrook — a crossing that dates back to the colonial era and played a role in Connecticut’s early transportation network.
Despite its modest size, Ferry Landing punches well above its weight. The park offers direct access to the Connecticut River for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing, making it a favorite launch point for paddlers exploring the lower river and its tidal marshes. Anglers cast for striped bass, bluefish, and white perch, particularly during spring and fall runs. A small beach area provides a place to wade and take in sweeping views of the river, the Lieutenant River inlet, and the Old Saybrook shoreline across the water.
Birdwatchers will find the park rewarding year-round, as the surrounding marshlands attract osprey, herons, and egrets throughout the warmer months. The Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center sits nearby, underscoring the area’s ecological significance.
The best time to visit is late spring through early fall, when the river is calm and wildlife is most active. Autumn brings quieter crowds and stunning foliage reflected on the water. There is no camping at the park given its small footprint, but nearby Rocky Neck State Park offers full campground facilities just a short drive east along the shoreline.
