Standing sentinel in the waters off Orient, New York, Orient Point Light—affectionately known as the “Coffee Pot” for its distinctive shape—has guided mariners since 1899. This cast-iron sparkplug-style lighthouse sits on a concrete caisson in Plum Gut, the turbulent strait between Orient Point and Plum Island.

The light remains active as a navigational aid but is not open to the public, and visitors cannot climb the tower. The best views come from the Orient Point ferry terminal or by boat. Golden hour and sunset offer the most dramatic photography conditions, with Long Island Sound as a backdrop.
