Andrew Jackson State Park

Tucked into the rolling red-clay hills of Lancaster County, Andrew Jackson State Park sits on 360 acres of South Carolina Piedmont landscape steeped in Revolutionary War-era history. The park honors the seventh U.S. president, who was born in the nearby Waxhaws settlement in 1767, making this the only state park in the country dedicated to a president’s birthplace region.

History anchors the experience here. A one-room schoolhouse replica and a museum housing artifacts from Jackson’s early life give visitors a tangible connection to the Carolina backcountry of the late 1700s. A bronze equestrian statue of young Andrew Jackson stands as the park’s centerpiece.

A 20-acre fishing lake draws anglers after bream and catfish, with a boat ramp available for small watercraft (electric motors only). Hiking trails wind through hardwood forests and open meadows, and the park maintains picnic shelters, a playground, and a meeting building for group gatherings.

Camping is available with sites suited for tents and RVs, offering a quiet, less-crowded alternative to South Carolina’s coastal parks. The campground’s manageable size keeps things peaceful, especially midweek.

Spring and fall deliver the best conditions — mild temperatures, fewer insects, and the Piedmont landscape at its most colorful. Summer works well for lake fishing early in the day before afternoon heat sets in.
