Standing guard over the Potomac River since 1867, Upper Cedar Point Light served as a vital navigational aid for vessels traveling Maryland’s waterways. This screwpile lighthouse guided mariners through the challenging waters where the Wicomico River meets the Potomac. Decommissioned and no longer active, the structure remains a striking example of Chesapeake Bay-style lighthouse architecture. The light is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it’s best viewed and photographed from the water during golden hour, when the light catches the weathered ironwork beautifully.
