Ontonagon Light

Built in 1852 on the shores of Lake Superior in Ontonagon, Michigan, this historic lighthouse has guided mariners through some of the Great Lakes’ most treacherous waters for over 170 years. One of the oldest surviving lighthouses on Lake Superior, the Ontonagon Light remains an active navigational aid maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard. The lighthouse is not open to the public, but visitors can view and photograph the exterior from nearby vantage points. Golden hour at sunset offers the best photography, with Lake Superior providing a dramatic backdrop.
