Standing on the rugged shores of Lake Superior near Ontonagon, Michigan, this lighthouse has guided mariners since 1894. The square steel tower, built to mark a dangerous rocky point fourteen miles east of the Ontonagon River, remains an active navigational aid maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The light is not open to the public, and visitors cannot climb the tower. However, the surrounding shoreline offers excellent views. Sunset is the best time for photography, with the light silhouetted against Lake Superior’s expansive horizon.

Nearby attractions include Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, the Ontonagon County Historical Museum, and Bond Falls. The area offers outstanding hiking, waterfalls, and fall color touring throughout the western Upper Peninsula.
