Martin Reef Light

Martin Reef Light

Lake Huron · Michigan

Standing in northern Lake Huron near Clark Township, Mackinac County, Martin Reef Light has guided mariners since 1927. Built to mark the dangerous shallow reef extending from Martin Point, this Art Deco–style steel and concrete tower remains an active aid to navigation maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The lighthouse is not open to the public, as it sits offshore and is accessible only by boat. Photographers find the best light during summer mornings and golden hour, when the tower contrasts dramatically against Lake Huron’s open waters.

Nearby attractions include Mackinac Island, the Straits of Mackinac, and Les Cheneaux Islands — making this a rewarding stop on any Upper Michigan lighthouse tour.
