Lorain West Breakwater Light(aka: Lorain Harbor Light)
Lake Erie · Ohio
Standing at the entrance to Lorain Harbor on Lake Erie, this historic lighthouse has guided mariners since 1836. The current structure, a striking white steel-framed tower, replaced earlier versions and served as a critical navigational aid for vessels entering the Black River channel. Now decommissioned, the light is no longer active and is closed to public access — visitors cannot climb the tower. The best photography opportunities come at sunrise or golden hour, when the light catches the lake’s reflective surface. Nearby, visitors can explore Lakeview Park’s beach and rose garden, the historic downtown Lorain district, and the Black River Reservation trails. The harbor area offers excellent fishing and waterfront dining.
