Huron Island Light

Perched on a remote granite island in Lake Superior, Huron Island Light has guided mariners through treacherous waters since 1868. Built to mark the dangerous rocky shoals near the Huron Islands, this rugged stone tower remains an active aid to navigation maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard. The lighthouse is not open to the public, and the island is accessible only by private boat, adding to its mystique. Photographers find the best light during summer mornings and dramatic autumn storm seasons. The nearby Huron Islands National Wildlife Refuge protects nesting bald eagles and migratory birds.
