Hunting Island Light stands on the shores of Hunting Island State Park near Beaufort, South Carolina. Built in 1859, the cast-iron lighthouse was disassembled and relocated to its current site in 1889 due to severe shoreline erosion — making it one of the few American lighthouses ever moved. The tower is no longer active and is currently closed to public climbing. Its striking black-and-white banded tower set against maritime forest and eroding beach makes it one of the most photographed lighthouses on the East Coast. Golden hour and overcast mornings offer the best light for photography.
