Horn Island Light

Horn Island Light

Mississippi

Rising from the shores of Horn Island off Pascagoula, Mississippi, this lighthouse was built in 1874 to guide vessels through the Mississippi Sound. The tower served mariners for decades before being deactivated, and it remains one of the Gulf Coast’s lesser-known historic sentinels. Its remote barrier island setting — part of Gulf Islands National Seashore — makes it particularly notable among Southern lighthouses. The lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, though it can be viewed by boat. Golden hour provides the best photography, with warm light against the island’s wild landscape. Nearby, visitors can explore Pascagoula’s beaches, the Scranton Floating Museum, and the pristine wilderness trails of Gulf Islands National Seashore.
