Rising from the treacherous waters of Long Island Sound, Execution Rocks Light has guided mariners since 1850. Its name carries a dark history — legend holds that colonial-era prisoners were chained to the rocks at low tide and left to drown. The granite tower and keeper’s dwelling stand on a small rocky island, creating one of New York’s most atmospheric lighthouse scenes.

The light remains active but is not open to the public. The best views come by boat, with golden hour providing ideal photography conditions, especially during fall when the surrounding foliage adds color to the shoreline backdrop.
