Lighthouse

Double Bayou Light

Texas

About this place

Built in 1900, Double Bayou Light stands on Oak Island, Texas, where it once guided vessels through the shallow waters of Galveston Bay’s eastern shore. This modest screw-pile lighthouse served local fishermen and small craft navigating the bayou channels before being deactivated. Though no longer an active aid to navigation, the structure remains a quiet testament to the region’s maritime heritage.

The lighthouse is not open to the public and cannot be climbed. Best photography conditions come during golden hour, when warm light reflects off the surrounding marshland. Nearby, visitors can explore Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, the Chambers County coastline, and the charming waterfront communities along Trinity Bay.
