Ashtabula Harbor Light

Ashtabula Harbor Light

Lake Erie · Ohio

Standing guard over Ashtabula Harbor since 1905, this active lighthouse marks one of Lake Erie’s busiest historic ports. The square concrete tower rises from the end of the harbor’s west breakwater, its light still guiding vessels through the narrow channel entrance. While the lighthouse is not open to the public, it makes a striking photographic subject — golden hour and stormy autumn skies offer the most dramatic shots from Walnut Beach or the adjacent pier.

Nearby, visitors can explore the Ashtabula Maritime & Surface Transportation Museum, stroll the revitalized Bridge Street Historic District, or walk across the longest covered bridge in the United States. The harbor area comes alive in summer with charter fishing and lakefront dining.
