Cana Island Light stands on a small island off the coast of Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin, connected to the mainland by a rocky causeway. Built in 1870, this cream-brick lighthouse guided ships through the treacherous waters of Lake Michigan’s Door County peninsula. The tower was later encased in steel plates to protect against harsh winters. Still an active navigational aid, the lighthouse and grounds are managed by the Door County Maritime Museum. The tower is not open to public climbing, but visitors can walk the causeway and explore the island grounds seasonally. Sunrise and golden hour offer the best photography conditions. Nearby, Baileys Harbor Range Lights, Ridges Sanctuary, and Whitefish Dunes State Park are worth exploring.
