Perched on a small rocky island in Crescent City, California, Battery Point Light has guided mariners since 1856, making it one of the oldest lighthouses on the West Coast. Built in response to increased coastal traffic during the Gold Rush era, this rugged stone lighthouse survived the devastating 1964 tsunami that destroyed much of Crescent City. Though no longer an active aid to navigation and currently closed to the public, the lighthouse remains a striking photographic subject. Low tide reveals a walkable path to the island—shoot during golden hour with tidepools in the foreground for dramatic compositions.
