Gerlach Road Scenic Byway

Stretching 7.2 miles through the stark, otherworldly terrain of northern Nevada, the Gerlach Road Scenic Byway delivers a driving experience unlike anything else in the American West. This state-designated scenic route cuts through a landscape of vast alkaline playas, rugged desert hills, and wide-open skies that seem to stretch forever.

Travelers along this byway are treated to sweeping views of the Black Rock Desert region, where the earth flattens into surreal expanses of cracked, sun-bleached ground. The surrounding hills shift through shades of ochre, rust, and pale gold depending on the light. Keep an eye out for wild horses, pronghorn, and the occasional dust devil spinning across the flats.
