North Ridge Scenic Byway

Ohio

14.2 miles

Stretching 14.2 miles through northern Ohio, the North Ridge Scenic Byway follows the ancient shoreline of a glacial lake that once covered much of the region. This State Scenic Byway traces a subtle ridge of sand and gravel left behind thousands of years ago, offering travelers a quiet journey through rolling farmland, wooded groves, and small towns that have thrived along this natural corridor for generations.

Along the route, watch for historic homesteads, old-growth tree lines, and sweeping views across fertile plains where the lake bottom once lay. The gentle elevation of the ridge provides surprisingly long sightlines over surrounding fields, particularly striking at sunrise and sunset when the light stretches across the landscape. Small roadside parks and pull-offs invite you to step out and take in the pastoral scenery.

The drive takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes without stops, but allow an hour or more to explore the charming communities and historical markers along the way. Late spring through early fall offers the best conditions, with wildflowers lining the roadside in May and June and harvest colors transforming the fields in September and October. This is a drive best savored slowly.
