Volusia Bar Light

Built in 1886, the Volusia Bar Light stands along the shores of Lake George in central Florida, once guiding steamboat traffic through the narrow channel connecting the St. Johns River to the lake. This skeletal tower served as a critical navigational aid during Florida’s steamboat era, when Lake George was a vital commercial waterway. The lighthouse was decommissioned and is no longer active.

The tower is not open to the public and cannot be climbed, but it remains a compelling subject for photographers. Early morning light offers the best conditions, with the lake providing dramatic reflections.
