Riverboat Row

Kentucky

1.0 miles

Tucked along the Ohio River in Augusta, Kentucky, Riverboat Row packs remarkable history into just one mile. This state-designated scenic byway follows the riverfront through one of Kentucky’s most charming and well-preserved 19th-century river towns, where ornate homes and storefronts recall the steamboat era that shaped the region.

As you drive, the wide Ohio River dominates the view to the north, with the rolling hills of Ohio rising on the opposite bank. Historic brick and frame buildings line the route, many dating to the early 1800s when Augusta thrived as a busy river port. Look for the former Rosemary Clooney house — the legendary singer grew up here, and the town celebrates her legacy with an annual music festival each June.

Stop to stroll the quiet streets, browse local shops, or grab a meal at one of the small-town eateries. The Augusta Ferry, one of the oldest continuous ferry crossings in the country, offers a memorable side trip across the river.

Allow 30 minutes to an hour, more if you linger on foot. Late spring through early fall brings the best weather and river views, while autumn sets the surrounding hillsides ablaze with color.
