East Point (Maurice River) Light
Delaware Bay · New Jersey
East Point Light
Standing sentinel over the Maurice River in Heislerville, New Jersey, East Point Light has guided mariners since 1849. This Cape Cod–style lighthouse is one of the last surviving examples of its kind on the Delaware Bay. Twice devastated by fire—in 1971 and 2001—it has been faithfully restored each time by dedicated preservation groups. The lighthouse is not currently open to the public, so visitors cannot climb the tower, but the exterior and surrounding marshlands offer striking views. Golden hour at sunset provides the best photography, with the bay as a dramatic backdrop. Nearby, explore the Maurice River Bluffs Preserve and the excellent birding opportunities at Heislerville Wildlife Management Area.
