Latimer Reef Light
Fishers Island · New York
Standing guard over Fishers Island Sound since 1884, Latimer Reef Light marks the dangerous reef between Fishers Island and the eastern tip of Long Island near Southold, New York. This cast-iron sparkplug-style lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation, its white flash guiding mariners through these busy waters. The light is not open to the public, but boaters and kayakers can admire its distinctive brown, octagonal tower up close. For the best photographs, plan for golden hour from the water, when warm light catches the iron plating beautifully. Nearby, explore the charming village of Greenport, Orient Point’s ferry terminal, and the pristine beaches of Fishers Island for a full day on the East End.
