Barbers Point Light

Standing on the western shore of Lake Champlain in Westport, New York, Barber’s Point Light has guided mariners since 1873. This historic lighthouse marked a crucial turning point along the lake’s busy 19th-century shipping routes.

The tower features classic architectural details typical of its era, though it was decommissioned and is no longer an active aid to navigation. The lighthouse is privately owned and not open to the public—visitors cannot climb the tower.

For photography, early morning light from the east beautifully illuminates the structure against Lake Champlain’s waters. Sunset offers dramatic backlit silhouettes.

Nearby attractions include Westport’s charming village center, Ballard Park for hiking, and the scenic Lake Champlain shoreline perfect for kayaking and swimming.
