Goose Rocks Light

Goose Rocks Light

Penobscot Bay · Maine

Rising from a rocky ledge in the Fox Islands Thorofare, Goose Rocks Light has guided mariners through Maine’s Penobscot Bay since 1890. This sparkplug-style lighthouse stands on a concrete caisson foundation, its distinctive design reflecting the engineering innovations of the late 19th century. The light remains active today, maintained by the Coast Guard.

While visitors cannot access or climb the lighthouse itself, it offers excellent photography opportunities from the water. Charter boats from nearby Vinalhaven and North Haven provide stunning vantage points, with golden hour and foggy mornings creating particularly dramatic shots.

Combine your visit with exploring North Haven’s quaint village, kayaking the thorofare, or visiting historic Vinalhaven—both islands accessible by Maine State Ferry.
