Lā’au Point Light
Standing on the remote western tip of Molokai, Lā’au Point Light has guided mariners through the Kaiwi Channel since 1912. This automated beacon marks one of Hawaii’s most isolated coastal stretches, accessible only by a rugged dirt road through former ranch land. The light remains active under U.S. Coast Guard operation but is not open to the public for climbing or interior access.
Photographers will find golden hour particularly rewarding, when warm light illuminates the tower against dramatic ocean backdrops. Winter months offer spectacular whale-watching opportunities from the surrounding coastline.
Nearby, visitors can explore Papohaku Beach — one of Hawaii’s longest white sand beaches — and the preserved fish ponds along Molokai’s southern shore.
