Eldred Rock Light
Alaska
Standing guard over Alaska’s Lynn Canal since 1906, Eldred Rock Light is the oldest surviving lighthouse in Alaska. This octagonal fog signal and light station was built to guide ships through one of North America’s longest and deepest fjords, a treacherous waterway that claimed numerous vessels during the Klondike Gold Rush era. The lighthouse remains active as a navigational aid, though it is not open to the public and can only be viewed from the water. Summer months offer the best photography conditions, with long daylight hours and dramatic mountain backdrops. Nearby attractions include Haines, the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, and ferry routes through the spectacular Inside Passage.
