Ashland Harbor Breakwater Light
Lake Superior · Wisconsin
Standing guard over Chequamegon Bay since 1915, the Ashland Harbor Breakwater Light guides vessels into one of Lake Superior’s most protected harbors. This active aid to navigation sits at the end of the concrete breakwater, its white cylindrical tower a familiar landmark along Ashland’s waterfront. While the lighthouse is not open to the public, it photographs beautifully from the shoreline and nearby marina, particularly during golden hour when the light contrasts against Lake Superior’s expanse. Winter offers dramatic ice formations around the breakwater. Visitors to Ashland can explore the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, stroll the Ore Dock ruins, or launch adventures into the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, just a short drive north.
