Built in 1878 on the shores of Keweenaw Bay in Baraga, Michigan, Sand Point Light guided vessels through Lake Superior’s treacherous waters during the height of the copper and lumber boom. The square red brick tower and attached keeper’s dwelling reflect classic Great Lakes lighthouse architecture. Though the light remains active as a navigational aid, the property is not open to the public, so visitors should plan to admire and photograph it from the surrounding shoreline.
