Rising from the waters of Big Bay de Noc in northern Lake Michigan, Minneapolis Shoal Light has guided mariners since 1935. This art deco–style lighthouse stands on a concrete crib foundation, built to replace an outdated lightship that had marked the dangerous shoal. Its striking square design sets it apart from traditional tower lighthouses, making it one of the most architecturally distinctive lights on the Great Lakes.

The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation but is not open to the public. Visitors can view it by boat from the Escanaba or Gladstone harbors. Golden hour provides the best photography conditions, with warm light reflecting off the water.
