DeTour Reef Light

Standing guard where Lake Huron meets the St. Marys River, DeTour Reef Light has guided mariners through these treacherous straits since 1931, replacing an earlier 1847 shore-based lighthouse. This striking concrete and steel crib light rises from the open water near De Tour Village, Michigan, making it one of the most photogenic offshore lights on the Great Lakes.
The lighthouse remains an active navigational aid and is not open to public climbing. Best photography conditions occur during golden hour from the De Tour Village waterfront or by charter boat in summer and early fall.
Nearby, visitors can enjoy the De Tour Passage Historical Museum, ferry service to Drummond Island, and excellent kayaking along the eastern Upper Peninsula shoreline.
