Nockamixon State Park sits on 5,283 acres in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, built around the stunning 1,450-acre Lake Nockamixon. Established in 1973, the park has become one of southeastern Pennsylvania’s most popular outdoor destinations, offering a surprising sense of wilderness just an hour north of Philadelphia.

The lake is the main draw. Anglers come for largemouth bass, muskellunge, walleye, and panfish, while sailors and windsurfers take advantage of the lake’s size and reliable breezes — motorboats are limited to electric motors only, keeping the water calm and the atmosphere peaceful. A swimming pool complex (not lake swimming) operates during summer months, and the marina rents pontoon boats, sailboats, and kayaks.

On land, over 20 miles of trails wind through rolling woodlands and open meadows. Hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders each have dedicated trail systems, so conflicts are rare. Late September through mid-October is arguably the best time to visit, when fall foliage reflects off the lake and summer crowds thin out. Spring wildflower season runs a close second.
