George W. Childs State Park
Pennsylvania (Pike County County)
George W. Childs State Park sits in the heart of Pike County, Pennsylvania, where three stunning waterfalls cascade through a hemlock-shaded gorge along Dingmans Creek. Spanning nearly 2,000 acres of Pocono Mountain woodland, this park is one of the most photographed natural areas in northeastern Pennsylvania — and for good reason.
The main trail follows Dingmans Creek past Factory Falls, Fulmer Falls, and Deer Leap Falls, each dropping over layered rock formations into clear pools below. The falls trail is relatively short at about a mile round-trip, making it accessible for families with kids, though wooden staircases and some uneven terrain keep it interesting. Interpretive signs along the route explain the area’s history as a 19th-century mill site, adding depth to what could otherwise be a quick waterfall walk.
Beyond the gorge, the park connects to a broader network of trails in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, opening up options for longer day hikes through mixed hardwood forests. Fishing for native brook trout in Dingmans Creek draws anglers in spring and early summer. Picnic pavilions near the trailhead make it easy to spend a full afternoon.
The park does not offer camping on-site, but nearby options in the Delaware Water Gap area are plentiful.
Visit in mid-to-late October for peak fall color — the hemlock canopy contrasting with blazing maples along the creek is exceptional. Spring snowmelt brings the waterfalls to their most dramatic volume. Summer weekends draw crowds, so arrive early to secure parking near the trailhead.
