Tassi Ranch consists of a 1930s-era stone ranch house, a barn, corral, and a grove of huge cottonwood trees beside a seasonal stream called Pigeon Wash. The remains of a holding pond and irrigation canal can be seen a short walk from the ranch house. A vault toilet is on the bluff just south of the ranch along the NPS 1213 road. Tucked against the striking red sandstone cliffs of the Wilson Cliffs in Clark County, Spring Mountain Ranch State Park offers 539 acres of high-desert beauty just 20 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. The contrast is striking — swap neon for cottonwood trees and slot machines for meadowlarks in a single short drive.

The park’s centerpiece is a historic ranch complex dating to the 1860s, one of the oldest working ranches in Nevada. The property passed through a string of colorful owners, including Howard Hughes and actress Vera Krupp, before becoming a state park. Visitors can tour the main ranch house and outbuildings to glimpse ranch life across more than a century of Nevada history.

Hiking trails wind through grasslands and up into the surrounding red rock formations, with routes suitable for families and experienced hikers alike. The Ash Grove Trail and Overlook Trail are popular choices, offering panoramic views of the valley floor. Picnic areas beneath mature shade trees make this one of the best spots near Las Vegas for a relaxed outdoor lunch.

From spring through fall, the park hosts a beloved outdoor concert and theater series — the Super Summer Theatre — on a stage backed by sandstone walls as a natural backdrop.

Visit in spring or fall when temperatures are comfortable for hiking. Summer days run hot, though the park sits at a slightly higher elevation than the valley floor, offering modest relief. Winter brings cooler weather ideal for exploring the ranch grounds and shorter trails.
