Henry’s Lake Wilderness Study Area
Idaho
Henry’s Lake Wilderness Study Area offers a compact but rewarding backcountry experience in eastern Idaho, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The landscape features creek-fed riparian corridors lined with aspen, willow, and serviceberry, transitioning to sagebrush-covered slopes dotted with seasonal wildflowers including lupine, paintbrush, and arrowleaf balsamroot.
Dispersed camping is permitted throughout the study area, allowing visitors to set up camp in undeveloped settings away from established facilities. Anglers will find fishing opportunities along the creek corridor, while hikers and horseback riders can explore the varied terrain from valley floor to higher slopes. The area supports healthy wildlife populations, making it a solid choice for hunting during appropriate seasons and year-round wildlife viewing and photography.
Access roads may require high-clearance vehicles depending on conditions. The best visiting window runs from late spring through early fall, with peak wildflower displays typically occurring in June and July. Snow can linger into late spring at higher elevations.
Visitors should pack out all trash, bring adequate water supplies, and check current BLM regulations before arriving. No developed campgrounds or potable water sources exist within the study area.
