Goose Creek Wilderness offers a compact but dramatic backcountry experience in southern Utah, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This 98-acre unit features Goose Creek, a designated “wild” waterway that carves through the steep Goose Creek Canyon with over 1,000 feet of elevation change from canyon floor to rim. The area shares a half-mile border with Zion National Park, making it an excellent add-on for visitors exploring the region.

At roughly 7,000 feet elevation, expect high desert terrain with dense tree stands on slopes and lush riparian vegetation along the creek corridor. The rugged topography rewards experienced hikers willing to navigate challenging terrain. Dispersed camping is permitted on BLM land, though the steep canyon walls and limited flat ground require careful site selection. No developed campgrounds or facilities exist within the wilderness boundary.

Access is remote and may require high-clearance vehicles depending on seasonal road conditions. Spring and fall provide the most comfortable temperatures for exploration, while summer brings afternoon thunderstorms common to southern Utah’s high country.
