North Fork Virgin River Wilderness Study Area serves as the gateway to one of the Southwest’s most iconic canyon hikes. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, this Utah backcountry area offers dramatic slot canyon scenery that rivals neighboring Zion National Park—because hikers entering the famous Virgin River Narrows trail pass through here first.

The terrain features towering sandstone walls, riparian corridors, and the cold, clear waters of the North Fork Virgin River. Dispersed camping is permitted on BLM land outside designated wilderness boundaries, allowing self-sufficient visitors to establish primitive campsites. No developed facilities exist within the WSA itself—pack everything in and out.
