Fiddler Butte Wilderness Study Area covers a sprawling landscape in southeastern Utah, stretching 11 miles north to south and 12 miles east to west. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, this remote desert terrain offers exceptional opportunities for hikers, backpackers, and photographers seeking solitude in Utah’s canyon country.

The western portion provides outstanding hiking through the canyons of North Wash, with multiple route options and straightforward access from Highway 95. Along the Dirty Devil River and The Block, backpackers find more challenging multi-day routes through dramatic sandstone formations.

Dispersed camping is permitted throughout BLM land here, allowing visitors to establish primitive campsites away from developed areas. Come prepared with all water, supplies, and navigation tools—services are limited in this backcountry setting. High-clearance vehicles are recommended for accessing many trailheads and camping areas off the main highway.

Spring and fall offer the most comfortable temperatures for exploring, as summer heat can be intense in the exposed canyon terrain. Winter visits are possible but require preparation for cold nights and occasional snow at higher elevations.
