Swatara State Park stretches across 3,515 acres of rolling terrain in Lebanon and Schuylkill Counties, following the meandering path of Swatara Creek through one of Pennsylvania’s most peaceful landscapes. Established in 1987, this park occupies land shaped by centuries of agricultural and industrial use, now reclaimed by forests of oak, hickory, and tulip poplar that blanket the surrounding ridges.

The park’s centerpiece is Swatara Creek itself, a waterway popular with canoeists and kayakers who float its gentle current through wooded corridors largely untouched by development. A section of the Appalachian Trail passes through the park’s northern reaches, giving long-distance hikers a welcome riverside respite and day hikers access to some genuinely scenic ridge walking.
