Tucked into the high desert of Lincoln County, Nevada, Spring Valley State Park centers on Eagle Valley Reservoir — a 65-acre lake fed by natural springs that feels almost improbable against the surrounding sagebrush and juniper hillsides. The reservoir is the main draw. Anglers come for rainbow and brown trout stocked regularly by Nevada Fish &038; Wildlife, and the calm water makes it ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddleboarding (no wake restrictions keep things peaceful). A handful of hiking trails wind through the canyon above the lake, offering views of layered sandstone formations and the occasional mule deer or pronghorn sighting.

Camping here is straightforward and uncrowded. Sites sit close to the water with fire rings and picnic tables, and the lack of light pollution makes for exceptional stargazing after dark. Spring and fall are the sweet spots for visiting — summer days push into the 90s, and winter can bring snow at this 5,600-foot elevation, though the reservoir rarely freezes completely.

What sets Spring Valley apart is its quietness. This isn’t a park that shows up on most travel itineraries, which means you’ll often have trails and shoreline largely to yourself. It’s a genuine hidden gem for anyone driving between Great Basin National Park and the rest of southern Nevada — well worth the detour off Highway 93 for a night or a long afternoon.
