Saratoga Spa State Park
New York (Saratoga/Capital District County)
Saratoga Spa State Park sits on 2,379 acres in the heart of New York’s Capital District, a rare place where natural mineral springs bubble up from the earth in one of the few locations east of the Rockies. Established in 1909 to protect these geologically significant springs from commercial exploitation, the park has evolved into a year-round destination that blends natural wonder with cultural richness.
The park’s mineral springs remain its defining feature. Visitors can taste naturally carbonated water at several public spigots throughout the grounds, each with its own distinct mineral profile. The Roosevelt Baths and Spa offers traditional mineral bath treatments in the same tradition that drew visitors here for over a century.
Beyond the springs, the park delivers on outdoor recreation. Miles of trails wind through mature forests and open meadows, welcoming hikers, joggers, and cross-country skiers depending on the season. The Peerless Pool complex opens each summer with a main pool, wading pool, and splash pad. Two golf courses attract players from across the region, and picnic areas dot the landscape for family gatherings.
The park also hosts the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, summer home to the New York City Ballet and the Philadelphia Orchestra, making it one of the few state parks where you can catch a world-class performance under the stars.
Visit in summer for swimming and performances, or in autumn when the surrounding hardwoods put on a spectacular color show across the rolling terrain.
