Robert Moses State Park sits at the edge of the St. Lawrence River in the heart of New York’s Thousand Islands region, offering 2,322 acres of waterfront parkland that feels worlds away from its Long Island namesake. Established in 1958 alongside the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway, the park occupies a stretch of shoreline where the river widens and the iconic island-dotted landscape unfolds in every direction.

The park’s beach along the St. Lawrence is its centerpiece — a sandy swimming area with unusually clear, cold water fed by the Great Lakes system. Beyond the shore, visitors find a well-maintained 18-hole golf course, nature trails winding through mature hardwood forest, and boat launches that put you within minutes of exploring the Thousand Islands by kayak or motorboat. Fishing here is serious business: the St. Lawrence corridor is one of the Northeast’s premier destinations for smallmouth bass, northern pike, and muskellunge.

Winter transforms the park into a cross-country skiing and snowmobiling hub, with trails connecting to the broader regional network. The campground offers both tent and RV sites, many shaded by towering oaks and positioned within walking distance of the river.

Visit between late June and early September for swimming and warm-weather activities. Fall brings spectacular foliage along the river corridor with far fewer crowds. Spring anglers arrive as early as May when bass season opens.
