About This Park

Robert Frost Wayside

Robert Frost Farm State Historic Site preserves the Derry farmstead where one of America’s most beloved poets lived from 1900 to 1911 and wrote many of the poems that would define his career. Walking the grounds, you can see the landscapes that inspired “Mending Wall,” “The Pastures,” and other works that changed American literature. The simple white clapboard farmhouse, restored to its early 1900s appearance, offers a window into the years Frost spent teaching, farming, and finding his voice as a writer.

The site features a self-guided nature trail that winds through fields and woods Frost knew intimately — the same stone walls, birch trees, and pastures that filled his poetry. Guided tours of the farmhouse run seasonally and bring Frost’s daily life into sharp focus, from the kitchen where the family gathered to the upstairs rooms where he wrote by lamplight. Poetry readings and special programs throughout the summer connect visitors to Frost’s work in the very place it was born.

The farm sits in Rockingham County, easily accessible from southern New Hampshire. Summer and early fall are the best times to visit — the grounds are open and lush, programs are running, and the New England landscape looks exactly as Frost described it. Autumn foliage season adds a layer of beauty that feels pulled straight from his verses.

This is a place for anyone who has ever read a Frost poem and wondered about the world behind the words.
