Navajo State Park sits along the northern shores of Navajo Reservoir, a massive body of water straddling the Colorado–New Mexico border near the small community of Arboles. Two full-service marinas provide boat rentals, fuel, and supplies.

Back on land, the park’s pinyon-juniper landscape rewards hikers and mountain bikers with sweeping views of the San Juan Mountains to the north. Wildlife watchers can spot mule deer, elk, bald eagles, and great blue herons along the shoreline trails.

Camping is a major part of the Navajo experience. The park operates several campgrounds with a mix of electric hookup sites and more primitive options, many positioned with direct reservoir views. Sites book up fast during summer, so reserve early.

The best time to visit is late May through September, when water temperatures climb high enough for swimming and the southern Colorado sun keeps days warm and dry. Spring and fall bring cooler temperatures but far fewer crowds — ideal for fishing and hiking.
