Jubilee College State Park sits on 3,200 acres of rolling timber and prairie in Brimfield, just northwest of Peoria. Named for a 19th-century Episcopal seminary whose stone ruins still stand within the park, Jubilee blends Illinois history with some of the best trail networks in central Illinois.

The park’s defining feature is its extensive multi-use trail system — over 40 miles of paths wind through hardwood forests and open meadows, drawing mountain bikers, hikers, and equestrians year-round. The mountain biking here is genuinely good, with enough elevation change and technical sections to keep experienced riders engaged. In winter, those same trails become popular cross-country skiing and snowmobiling routes when conditions allow.

Hunters know Jubilee well. The park offers managed deer and turkey hunts in season, and the mix of timber and grassland makes for productive outings. Birders will find plenty to watch too, especially during spring and fall migration when warblers move through the canopy.

The historic Jubilee College building, dating to 1839, anchors the park’s cultural side. It’s worth a walk-through to understand the ambition behind Bishop Philander Chase’s frontier school before it closed during the Civil War.

Spring wildflower season (April–May) and fall color (mid-October) are the standout times to visit. Summer can be humid but the forest canopy provides welcome shade. Expect well-maintained trails, a peaceful atmosphere, and far fewer crowds than Illinois’ lakefront parks.
