The park centers around Hayes Lake, a 200-acre impoundment on the North Fork of the Roseau River created by a dam you can walk across. The lake is a reliable spot for northern pike, walleye, and panfish, with a carry-in boat access that keeps motorized traffic minimal. In winter, the lake becomes a destination for ice fishing, and the surrounding trails convert to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing routes that wind through boreal forest.
