Arizona Beach State Recreation Site

Tucked along Oregon’s wild southern coast, Arizona Beach State Recreation Site offers one of the region’s most underrated stretches of shoreline. The beach sits between Gold Beach and Port Orford, two of the South Coast’s most scenic towns, and draws visitors who want Pacific coastline without the crowds found farther north. Low tide reveals tide pools worth exploring, and the long, flat sand makes for excellent beachcombing. Driftwood collects in dramatic tangles along the high-tide line, and agate hunters regularly find treasures after winter storms churn the gravel.

Fishing is popular here — the nearby Elk River and Sixes River attract steelhead and salmon anglers — and surfers occasionally ride the breaks when conditions cooperate. Whale watching is rewarding during the gray whale migration from December through June.
