Toledo Harbor Light
Lake Erie · Ohio
Standing guard at the mouth of the Maumee River in Jerusalem Township, Ohio, the Toledo Harbor Light has guided vessels into Toledo’s busy port since 1904. This Romanesque Revival lighthouse is notable for its striking three-story design, resembling a fortress more than a traditional lighthouse. Built to withstand Lake Erie’s brutal winters, it’s often photographed encased in dramatic ice formations.
The light remains active and is not open to the public, as it sits offshore and is accessible only by boat. Golden hour on clear winter days offers the best photography, especially when ice coats the structure. Nearby, visitors can explore Maumee Bay State Park, the National Museum of the Great Lakes, and Toledo’s vibrant waterfront.
