Tchefuncte River Range Front Light

Standing on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain in Madisonville, Louisiana, this 1903 skeletal tower has guided vessels along the Tchefuncte River for over a century. The open-frame iron structure remains an active navigational aid maintained by the Coast Guard, making it one of the few working historic lights on the lake. The lighthouse is not open to the public, but photographers can capture striking shots from the Madisonville lakefront, especially during golden hour when the tower silhouettes against the water. The town’s charming riverfront offers excellent seafood restaurants, the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum, and scenic kayaking on the Tchefuncte River — making a visit well worth the trip.
